Margaret Niedland battled breast cancer with remarkable energy.

“My mother, Meg, was known for reaching out to help those in need,” Suzanne Niedland, a Jupiter resident, said. “She passionately believed that early detection of breast cancer expanded patient choices, improved patient quality of life and reduced loss of life.”

While Ms. Niedland lost her battle earlier this year at the age of 76, her vision for women to have access to a facility that provides the earliest possible detection of breast cancer has become a reality. Suzanne Niedland and Lawrence F. De George donated $4 million to the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation on Ms. Niedland’s behalf.

“My mother’s inspirational spirit is at the heart of our gift,” Suzanne Niedland said.

The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center will be equipped with the world’s most advanced imaging technology and will expand the capabilities of Jupiter Medical Center’s nationally accredited Comprehensive Breast Care Program.

“With this transformational gift, the availability of life-saving screening and diagnostic services will increase dramatically for many women in our community,” said Richard Cosnotti, president of Jupiter Medical Center Foundation. “We are deeply grateful to Suzanne and Larry for this commitment and their ongoing support and leadership for Jupiter Medical Center. The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center will serve as a lasting tribute to Margaret’s bold and caring spirit.”

The gift from Suzanne Niedland and her husband is the latest in their family’s support of the transformational change at Jupiter Medical Center. A $10 million gift from Florence A. De George, through the Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust, last fall created the Florence A. De George Children’s and Women’s Healthcare Services.
