John D. MacArthur Beach State Park's F.U.N. programs are designed for families with school-age children to come and learn about natural-science topics through hands-on exploration. F.U.N. is an acronym for Families Understanding Nature.
Scouting groups, as well as home-schooled children are welcome to join in the F.U.N.
On Oct. 20, the theme is "Life in the Estuary." Participants will be led on a walk through the estuary to examine the mangroves close-up and seine the area to discover what is living among the seven species of sea grass. Students should wear old clothes and old, closed-toe shoes that can get wet and dirty. Bring a change of clothing and shoes.
Cost is $5 per child; parents can accompany their children for free. Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park enjoy free park admission.
All F.U.N. programs will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the Pew Family Natural Science Education Classroom. Space is limited; call 561-776-7221, Ext. 104 for reservations.
