Architect named for Meyer Academy

October 10, 2013

Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy has selected the architect and construction company to build its 68,000-square-foot facility at 5225 Hood Road, Palm Beach Gardens. Tercilla Courtemanche Architects will design the two-story school building and Kaufman Lynn Construction will oversee the development and construction for the project.

Founded in 2000 by Rene Tercilla and Lance Courtemanche, Tercilla Courtemanche Architects, Inc. specializes in the design of educational, residential and commercial facilities. The firm has designed educational projects throughout the state, with construction costs for educational projects alone totaling over $1 billion.
Palm Beach County-based Kaufman Lynn Construction provides an array of construction management and general contracting services for both public and private clients throughout Florida. Ranked among the Top 10 contractors in South Florida, the firm’s extensive portfolio of projects includes a wide spectrum of education and community facilities.
The new building for kindergarten through eighth-grade students is designed to reflect Meyer Academy’s philosophy and curriculum, built on critical thinking skills, service learning and strong Jewish values. Every aspect of the campus design – from the biblical inscriptions on the walls, to the map of Israel on the courtyard floor – is intended to foster the connection between academic studies and Jewish life. Highlights of the new building include a dedicated performing arts space; a 21st century multi-media center featuring a television production studio; a center for spiritual learning; classrooms equipped with advanced technologies that support hands-on exploratory learning; a uniquely devoted area for Middle School students to call their own; and much more.

“The start of the 2013-2014 school year marks Meyer Academy's 40th year as a Jewish day school in Palm Beach County,” said Headmaster Nehemia “Nammie” Ichilov. “We will continue to uphold our high standard of excellence, but now with the added benefit of being in a campus designed to fully accommodate a 21st century education. Our campus relocation will support a comprehensive integrated curriculum, consistent with our prestigious International Baccalaureate designation, and position us to be a premier learning center for generations to come.”

Meyer Academy will continue to operate from its existing campus in West Palm Beach until the new facility is completed at the start of the 2014-2015 school year.  The new campus is being funded by the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s Tomorrow Today Campaign.

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, the Meyer Academy and other Federation partner agencies are working together on Tomorrow Today: A Community Partnership Project. The large-scale capital campaign is helping to relocate, renovate and expand key facilities, like Meyer Academy, that serve the educational, recreational and social service needs of the Jewish community.
