Scripps on Diabetes and Obesity Feb. 15

The Front Lines of Hope discussion series is presented by The Scripps Florida Council and serves to educate and enlighten all who attend about some of the most challenging issues of human health.

The fourth season of the popular Front Lines of Hope discussion series at The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter continues on Wednesday, Feb. 15, with "Diabetes and Obesity: Scripps Florida Researchers Tackle a Global Epidemic," by Scripps Florida Assistant Professor Patricia McDonald, Ph.D.  Dr. McDonald will elaborate upon diabetes and obesity, two of the most serious health problems facing us today.

The Front Lines of Hope discussion series coming up are:

  • Thursday, March 15, 2012: "Long-Term Memory Formation: How Scripps Research May Unlock the Complexities of Alzheimer's," by Scripps Florida Assistant Professor Gavin Rumbaugh, Ph.D., and Sathya Puthanveettil, Ph.D.  Drs. Rumbaugh and Puthanveettil will speak about their research into the workings of memory and the neurodegenerative diseases that compromise it.
  • Monday, April 16, 2012: "Clean Energy is Possible: How Scripps and NextEra Collaborate on Research to Make it Practical and Plentiful," by Scripps Florida Professor Roy Periana, Ph.D.  Dr. Periana will highlight a new generation of chemistry for a sustainable planet.

Front Lines of Hope events take place at The Rodney B. Fink Education Pavilion at Scripps Florida in Jupiter, from 5 :00 to 7:00 pm.

Virtual Exploration

Come learn about your biomedical research neighbor monthly from 1:30-2:30 PM in the Rodney B. Fink Education Pavilion. This is an informative overview of Scripps Florida. Guests are welcome to buy lunch in the Scripps Café prior to the presentation. The dates for this upcoming season are Feb. 8 and March 9.
