More that 200 children gathered recently at Duncan Middle School in Palm Beach Gardens, the temporary home of the Jewish Community Center North's Camp Shalom and Camp Tikvah, as leaders from the Pythian Youth Foundation presented a check for $4,000.
The money will go toward the agency’s special-needs camps and marks the eighth consecutive year the Pythians have provided a donation to the JCC. To date, the Pythians have contributed more than $25,000 to the camps.
"The Pythian Youth Foundation’s donation will enable children to attend summer camp who otherwise would not have been able," JCC Associate Executive Director Mindy Hanken said.
The funds also go toward scholarships and shadow counselors.
"The funding helps us provide services for children with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and physical and cognitive impairments to attend a number of programs at Camp Tikvah," Hanken said.
Past Grand Chancellor Sir Irving Margulies said the goal of the Pythian Youth Foundation is to support as many special-needs camps as possible throughout Florida.
