'Hot Wheels...Hot Meals' Raises $60,000 for Meals on Wheels

November 29, 2012

Rich and Rita Lazzara look to be on date night at Ragtops Motorcars Museum during a Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches fundraiser.

Close to 150 supporters of Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches were onhand for the organization’s first fundraiser – “Hot Wheels...Hot Meals” – which raised more than $60,000.

At Ragtops Motorcars Museum in West Palm Beach, “Hot Wheels...Hot Meals” offered guests the chance to mingle with vintage automobiles while placing their silent-auction bids and enjoying a dinner buffet. Throughout the evening, the DJ filled the museum with tunes from the '50s and '60s.

Proceeds from the event will be used by Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches to help cover the costs of delivering fresh food to homebound seniors in the region.

“We’re thrilled by the showing of support we received from our community,” said Charlie Ring, executive director of the nonprofit. “Those who attended 'Hot Wheels...Hot Meals' were very generous, as were the dozens of businesses that supported us with sponsorships and donated auction and raffle items.”

The event would not have been successful if it hadn’t have been for the dedication of committee members and sponsors, Ring said.

“Our committee, led by Sherry Schattie and Wanda Doumar, was phenomenal,” he said. “All of us are really looking forward to seeing how we can build on this year’s success going forward.”
