Artist explores realm of nature

May 5, 2012

"A Connection to the Past Ceaselessly Pulling Away" by Justin Rabideau.

Atlanta-based sculptor and printmaker Justin Rabideau finds inspiration from objects and environments that create a notion of beauty, awe or wonder. He seeks to examine these experiences through the use of salvaged materials and artifacts that are unique to these moments and settings.

It is his desire that these sculptural objects and drawings encourage questions related to the specificity of one's surroundings and how these environments and objects affect both mind and body.

Seventeen pieces of Rabideau's latest works, titled "What Remains, Remembers," will be exhibited at The Art Gallery at Eissey Campus, May 15-September 7.

"Metamorphosis and ritual inform my work," says Rabideau. "Assembling my sculptures and drawings from elements and ideas rooted in exploring the natural realm, I describe my relationship to the land as it relates to the specificity of place. Utilizing the rich cultural and natural elements of the Southern landscape, I attempt to form a poetic dialog between the often overlooked, the hidden, and quiet moments of life."

The opening reception is Tuesday, May 15, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. All of Rabideau's work is for sale, prices range from $500-$3,000.  The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Gallery summer hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information about the exhibit, call 561-207-5015 or visit the gallery's webpage at www.palmbeachstate.edu/ArtGalleryPBG.xml .

The workshop is free to all Palm Beach State students, faculty and staff; the public is also welcome to attend (a $40 fee will apply).
