Representative Allen West visits Urban Youth Impact

February 29, 2012

The Leadership Academy was abuzz when U.S. Representative Allen West arrived at Urban Youth Impact’s Dream Center to speak to more than 100 inner-city students. Students grades K-12 listened to words of encouragement as West told of growing up in the inner-city of Atlanta with dreams of being a man in uniform just like his father.   “Character is doing what is right even when no one is looking,” he said. West explained that it was appropriate that he spoke during Black History Month because he is living black history; the last time there was a black representative in the State of Florida was in 1876.

West committed to support Urban Youth Impact by attending and speaking at the upcoming Charity Auction Dinner on Sunday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at The Cohen Pavilion at The Kravis Center.  Urban Youth Impact’s 10th Annual Charity Auction Dinner & Golf Classic is the organization’s most important fundraising event.
Event host committee members include Suzanne & Michael Ainslie of Palm Beach, Beyond Organic/Beyond Organic Foundation, Gib & Pam Harris and Betsy & Sam Reeves of Lost Tree Village, and Steve & Apryl Scalici of Jupiter.  Steve Scalici serves as board chairman for Urban Youth Impact, while Apryl is the chairwoman for the Charity Auction Dinner & Golf Classic.

The event committee secured auction items that include an escorted foursome at Congressional Country Club; two-tickets in the Owner’s box to watch the Miami Dolphins; a week stay in two-bedroom villa at Atlantis' Harborside Resort; an all-expense paid Indy500 experience including a meet and greet with Graham Rahal; a ride for two on the famed Goodyear Blimp, and one week in a two-bed residence at the St. Regis in Aspen.

On Monday, April 2, the Golf Classic will take place on the Championship Course at PGA National Resort and Spa. With a hole-in-one on designated par-3s, players have a chance to win a Range Rover or a Jaguar courtesy of Palm Beach Motor Cars.

Committee members include: Lisa Aaron, Tamy Allen, Anushka Blau, Don Bray, Coni Rhudy, Jenny Drozd, Carrie Dzama, Kathleen Frederick, Judie Gibson, Bill Hobbs, Jan Loveland, Melanie Maestre, Kristen Miller, Apryl Scalici, Sherry Scott, and Carrie Williams.
