Investment Workshop

January 14, 2012

Roy Wiley, president of SmartPlan Investing in Jupiter, will offer an educational seminar, Separating the Myths from Truths of Investing on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Learn why so many investors fail and what you can do to succeed and find out what your broker hopes you NEVER learn. This presentation is to explain the common misconceptions about investing and introduce the Nobel- Prize winning Modern Portfolio Theory and Three Factor Model; which is the academic philosophy in which a well globally diversified portfolio is built.

The investment myths are what we have traditionally believed to be appropriate methods of investment advice. When we talk to a stockbroker or financial advisor about investments we may ask them questions such as:

What stock or investments do you like?
This is the 1st myth: stock selection.

Who is your favorite manager?
This is the 2nd myth: Track record investing.

Where do you think the market’s going?
This question speaks to the 3rd myth: market timing, or when to get in and out of the market.

The 4th myth is one that nobody really likes to talk about much, and that is the true costs of investing.
